PROFILE

Sung Yong Cho

# My initial training of urology residency and fellowship was at the Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) in Korea. After the fellowship, I joined the Seoul National University Boramae Medical Center (SMG-SNU BMC) as a full-time faculty in 2011 and moved back to SNUH in 2019 as an associate professor. Now I am the director of the 'Specialized Endoluminal Endourology-Stone Clinic (SEES)', the first kidney stone specialized center in Korea, and 'Medical Device Usability Testing Center (UTC)" in this hospital.

# I am in charge of the Units of Shock Wave Lithotripter (SWL), Flexible Ureteroscopy (f-URS), Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL), and Endoscopic Combined IntraRenal Stone surgery (ECIRS). Besides the Kidney Stone Center, I am also taking care of the enucleation surgery of benign prostate hyperplasia Unit (HoLEP and BipoLEP), endoscopic treatment of ureteral stricture and upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). I joined the Asian Guidelines of Urolithiasis Panels in 2019 as the Korean representative and one of the founders of an international academic symposium named ETS (Endoluminal Technology Symposium) in Asia (endoluminal.org).

# For the past years, I am one of the members (founder & first president, www.cluesurology.org) who are leading f-URS, supine and Miniaturized PCNL, ECIRS cases in Korea. As a surgeon, my goal is to serve patients better and reach the ultimate outcomes of a high 'Quality Of Life' and safety with advanced surgical techniques and extensive experiences.

Apr. 26, 2012. The 1st case of 18Fr supine mini-PCNL (5.94mm) was performed in Korea for a patient with a 2.3cm-sized renal stone. (2012년 앙와위 18Fr 최소침습 경피적 신장결석 내시경수술 국내 최초 시행)

Jul. 31, 2015. A ceremony marking the 500th surgery of minimally invasive renal stone surgery, including retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL), the largest surgical cases in South Korea. (2015년 연성내시경 신장결석 제거술 500례 기념)

Oct. 5, 2015. The 1st case of ECIRS (Endoscopic IntraRenal Surgery) using mini-PCNL and RIRS was performed in Korea. (2015년 경피적-요관적 신장결석 복합제거술 국내 최초 시행)

Feb. 28, 2016. Starting EASYURO (www.easyuro.com) for education on endoscopic stone & prostate surgery. (2016년 이지유로 교육사업 시작)

Nov. 15, 2016. The 1st case of RIRS using a disposable flexible ureterorenoscope (Lithovue) was performed in Korea. (2016년 1회용 연성내시경 국내 최초 도입 후 국내 최초 사용)

Jan. 3, 2017. The 1st case of 12Fr Ultra-mini-perc (UMP, 3.94mm) was performed in Korea for an 18-month-old baby with a staghorn stone. (2017년 18개월 아이에 대한 최소 침습 신장결석 경피적 제거술 국내 최초 수행)

안녕하세요. 서울대병원 비뇨의학과 조성용교수 입니다.

최근 10년간 요로결석과 전립선비대증의 수술적 치료는 내시경 기구의 급격한 발달로 효과적이면서도 안전성을 강화하는 방향으로 발전해왔습니다. 이를 국내에 적극 반영시키고자  이지유로(easyuro) 사이트가 개설되었습니다.(2016.1)
